A Real Summer Bucket List

Summer is all about relaxing, having fun, and playing, right? Well, except for the fact that it is also a great time to clean out the garage, wash windows and work in the garden.

Work and play are both important aspects of family life and learning to balance the two is an essential life skill. Truth be told, work and play actually enhance the power of each other. The disappointment of having “clean the basement” on the calendar this weekend can make seeing a day at the amusement park scheduled for next weekend all that much more exciting. And the task of making dinner at home usually feels pretty good after a long road trip.

So when creating a family summer bucket list this year, balance out necessary projects that can seem hard or boring with activities that are fun, exciting, or simply enjoyable. Having both on the list is not only realistic but builds stronger family relationships than just fun can do on its own.
